Privacy Policy for luftline

1. Introduction

Welcome to luftline! Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how luftline collects, stores, and processes your information. Our guiding principle is privacy by design—we do not collect, store, or share any personal data on servers we operate.

By using luftline, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.

2. Data Collection and Usage

2.1 No Personal Data Collection on Our Servers

We do not operate any servers. luftline has no accounts, no sign-up, no cloud sync, and no backend. Everything you save in the app stays on your device.

2.2 Saved Places & Local Data

•    The places you save (name, kind, city, country, address, coordinates, optional note, and the date you saved them) are stored locally on your device as a JSON file in the app's private Documents directory.
•    They are never uploaded to any server we operate.
•    Your unit preference (metric or imperial) is stored locally via UserDefaults.
•    You can delete any saved place by swiping right on it, or by tapping "Forget this place" in the detail view. Uninstalling luftline immediately removes all locally stored data from your device.

2.3 Location Data

•    luftline requests the "When In Use" location permission. Your location is used only while the app is open, and only to: compute the distance and bearing to your saved places, power the compass needle, reverse-geocode your current city for the "you are here" header, and bias search results toward places near you.
•    Your raw coordinates are never logged, transmitted, or stored by us. They are processed in memory on your device and discarded.
•    The only exceptions are the Apple-provided services described in section 2.4, which transit Apple's infrastructure under Apple's privacy terms.

2.4 Apple Services Used

luftline relies on three Apple-provided services for its online features. When you use these, your data goes through Apple's infrastructure under Apple's privacy practices — not ours: • Apple Maps Search (MKLocalSearch) — when you type a search query, your text and approximate region are sent to Apple to return matching places. • Apple Maps Points of Interest (MKLocalPointsOfInterestRequest) — when you open the Search screen, your current map region is sent to Apple to suggest nearby places. • Apple Geocoding (CLGeocoder) — your current coordinates are sent to Apple to translate them into a city name for the home screen.

We do not see, log, or store any of these requests. Apple's privacy practices are described at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

2.5 No Tracking or Analytics

•    luftline does not track user behavior, app usage, or any personal identifiers.
•    We do not use third-party analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Firebase, or similar tracking services.
•    No data is shared with third parties.

2.6 No Ads or Third-Party Services

•    luftline is a completely ad-free experience.
•    We do not use third-party advertising networks or monetization tools that collect user data.
•    luftline contains no third-party SDKs.

3. Permissions and Device Access

luftline uses only standard, sandboxed iOS facilities:

•    Location (When In Use) – Used to compute distance and bearing to your saved places, drive the compass needle, reverse-geocode your current city, and bias search results. Without it, luftline cannot fulfill its core purpose.
•    Magnetometer / True Heading – Used to drive the compass needle.
•    Network Access – Required only for searching new places and reverse geocoding. Once a place is saved, you can navigate to it offline.
•    On-Device File Storage – Used to save your places in the app's private container, accessible only to luftline.
•    UserDefaults – Used to remember your unit preference (metric or imperial) across launches.

✅ All permissions are used strictly for core functionality and are never exploited for data collection.

4. Your Privacy Rights

Because we do not collect personal data on any server we operate, there is no stored information for us to: • Modify • Delete • Share

You remain in full control of your data at all times. You can erase any saved place by swiping right on it, or delete it from the detail view. Uninstalling luftline immediately removes all locally stored data from your device.

5. Security

•    luftline does not transmit data to servers we control, so there is no risk of data leakage from our side.
•    All saved places are processed and stored locally on your device.
•    Once your places are saved, luftline does not require an active network connection. You can use Airplane Mode and luftline will still guide you to them.

6. Children's Privacy

luftline is designed to be safe for users of all ages. Because we do not collect any personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify users through an in-app message or an updated version of the app.
